Myanmar: Democratic pillars fall apart
This is not the first time when democracy had been murdered in Myanmar. So, it is unlikely to say that Myanmar is an example of Democracy. They gained their independence from the British Empire in 1948 and became a democratic nation. But it never lasted long in their history as, after 10 years in 1958, they were under military control for the first time. It lasted for nearly more than 50 years. Finally, the military dictatorship was officially dissolved in 2011, followed by a general election in 2010. Aung San Suu Kyi emerged as the leader of democratic Myanmar. But again 2021 was the year to be specially mentioned in the history of Myanmar. On February 1, 2021, the Myanmar military arrested the civilian leaders of the national and state governments and announced a one-year "state of emergency."
